So today, a group of exchange students took the T-bane line 1 up north to the final destination. This line, which is according to Wikipedia also called Holmenkollen Line, takes you right through the skiing resort all the way up to Frognerseteren, the northernmost and highest station of Oslo's metro. Accordingly, the T-bane was packed with people as well as their skiing equipment (happens if you decide to go there on a Saturday, I guess). But when you finally get off - it takes a while to get there, of course - you are rewarded with this view:
Just so you can imagine where I was hanging around today, here's the obligatory map, including the route of the T-bane line 1, which I entered at Majorstuen (city centre, where all T-bane lines meet):
Yup, that's still Oslo. |
Officially, this was a sledging trip. However, I mainly joined for the view - which was for sure great! -, but was not so sure about actually going downhill with a sledge. (Short language excursion: people kept saying sled/sledding, which confused me a bit. It turned out to be American English. sledge/sledging is British English.) So I did not rent my own sledge, but just borrowed somebody else's for a few minutes to try it out. Photo to prove my words:
However, it was quite steep, and there were so many people, including children (see photo), that I wasn't sure what I should be more afraid of: crashing into someone or someone crashing into me... So yeah, if I should try again this season, it has to be on a weekday...
The rest of time, I mainly spent walking around, enjoying the landscape, trying to not get killed/ hurt myself (successfully, fortunately) - and taking photos, of course. Enjoy!

When it started to get dark in the afternoon (already indicated on the last few photos), a subgroup of us left Frognerseteren - not in order to go home, but to go to IKEA! (No, that's not my second home yet. :D)
And now I need to go to bed, because there will be a sightseeing tour organised by the International Office tomorrow, and I don't want to sleep through it!
