Sunday morning in Grünerløkka

After a quite relaxed Saturday night with homemade Italian pizza (made by an Italian!), today was a bit more active, including two different activities. That's why there will be two blog posts - I took too many photos for one...

In the morning, we went to Grünerløkka, an Oslo district in the city centre. It used to be a working class area, but now, it's mainly hip(ster).

So we took the T-bane to Stortinget and made our way to Grünerløkka from there. Hot tip: if you're ever looking for Oslo's parliament station, that's it. It's called like this because the parliament is called Stortingand Stortinget is the definite form of it. It literally translates to "the big thing". :D

First, we went to Mathallen, Oslo's food court (mat = food).

Then, we went to a Sunday Market near a place called Blå (an alternative music venue, Google says). And before as well as after, we had a look at all the street art in that area:

And, yeah, it was quite interesting there. :D

Since we still had some time left afterwards, we walked along Oslo's river for a while. It's called Akerselva, which is "the Aker river". It's female, that's why the definite form ends with -a. However, for some reason, all female words in Norwegian can also be male. Therefore, it can also be called Akerselven... As for the Aker part: seems like that was a farm a long time ago - and basically everything in Oslo is named after it.

However, since the weather was really good today (the sun finally came out again!), I got some nice photos at the river:

Edit: and for the geographically interested among you - this is where Grünerløkka is located in Oslo:
